Winter warmth at "The Fox" (December 2009) PDF Print E-mail

I recently visited The Fox in Old Coulsdon to try out their new Winter Warmer Selection menu, which is currently available alongside the old favourites on the regular menu.

The Fox is very welcoming with soft lights, comfortable seating and real fires with the ambience of a country cottage. Whilst waiting for our meals we enjoyed a selection of warm Mediterranean breads served with infused olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The starter I chose was the Tempura Tiger Prawns served with a plum, coriander and toasted sesame seed dipping sauce as prawns are a real favourite of mine. The batter was extremely light and the dipping sauce was wonderful! My partner Peter chose the Roasted Flat Mushrooms stuffed with forest mushrooms, cream cheese and thyme served with crisp sweet cured bacon and rocket which were cooked to perfection; they are also served without the bacon for a vegetarian option. For my main course I chose Spanish Chicken, breast of chicken stuffed with goat's cheese and chorizo served on roasted peppers and crisp baby potatoes with basil pesto. The chicken was moist and all the flavours were delightful. Peter chose the Lamb Shank Jardaloo, tender lamb shank in a spicy spinach curry sauce with cumin, chili and paprika, finished with juicy apricots served with coconut and almond rice and a poppadom. The meat was tender and succulent and the sauce had a really spicy kick. All the dishes came beautifully presented. Our waiter suggested one of their new selection of wines, the Sangiovese Luigi Leonardo red which truly complemented our meal. All the waiting staff were helpful and attentive, making our evening all the more enjoyable.
