Children from Asquith Nursery with some mobile phones for their collection box.A Caterham resident is raising money for children's charity Unicef by collecting old mobile phones, working or broken, to sell to a recycling firm for cash. Tracey Ampaw of Caterham-onthe- Hill is looking for local shops and businesses willing to be collection points for the phones. The money raised will be donated to Unicef, specifically the million plus babies and children that have been injured and/or orphaned in Haiti.

"My idea started as a small venture involving friends and family, as an alternative to asking people for cash," said Tracey. "It has started to snowball and now local schools and nurseries are getting involved too."

Tracey is keen to get local schools involved in collecting old phones and so far Whyteleafe Primary School and the Asquith Nursery have said they are happy to be involved.

If you have an old mobile phone that you can donate to Tracey, collection points have already been set up at JJ Browne Jewellers and Lorimers in Caterham. If you own a shop or business and are willing to be another collection point, in or near to Caterham, please email Tracey at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
