There has been much debate recently about the health of the nation and child obesity levels, but the one thing that most people can agree on is that increasing participation in sport can only be a good thing. An issue many families will recognise though, is that with so many demands on their time it's difficult to fit everything in. Perhaps the answer is a sport that allows the entire family to participate together. One such sport is orienteering.
Whilst for some, orienteering provides a competitive sport requiring a very high level of athleticism, for many of its regular followers it provides a great opportunity for a stroll or run with a difference, whilst enjoying the outdoors with their family.
Local orienteering club DFOK will be hosting an orienteering event at Happy Valley on Saturday 16th January 2010. Three courses of varying length and difficulty will be available and the event is open to all. No prior experiences is necessary, advice will be available for newcomers and timing equipment will be provided. Walking or running attire is recommended (long trousers or track suit bottoms should be worn).
Registration opens at 10.45am and the event starts from 11.00am to 12.30pm. The courses close at 2.00pm. Parking is at the end of Fox Lane off the B2030 Coulsdon Road. For more details see: http://www.dfok.co.uk/
