Surrey wins technology award

Surrey County Council has won a national technology award supported by the Prime Minister.

The council won the best project delivery category in the UK Public Sector Digital Awards for developing technology to help support vulnerable children.

David Cameron said the awards recognise “brilliant work” in local government.

He said: “I congratulate all the nominees and encourage all digital specialists across the public sector to follow their good example and innovation.”

Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Change and Efficiency Helyn Clack said: “The fact that Surrey’s work is being used as examples of excellence will help show our peers and the public that we are well on our way to reaching our aim of becoming the best council in the country.”

Mary Angell, Surrey County Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said: "This has revolutionised how our social workers operate. It cuts down on bureaucracy and increases time on the frontline."

The winners were announced at a ceremony at the London Guildhall attended by ministers, top civil servants and technology experts from the public and private sectors.
