Bids invited for share of £200,000 to help disadvantaged areas in Surrey

Surrey County Council is asking for bids to be submitted for a share of the £200,000 pledged by leader Dr Andrew Povey to help disadvantaged parts of the county.

Dr Povey promised the funding for schemes that improve people’s skills, support efforts to tackle anti-social behaviour, raise educational standards, promote digital inclusion or help parents bring up children.

Now Surrey’s 11 local committees are being invited to bid for the cash to “make a real difference” in less well-off areas and are seeking initiatives in their areas to put forward.

Applications can be made to four council staff responsible for supporting the committees. Their contact details and the committees they cover are:

Dr Povey said: “Although Surrey is comparatively a very prosperous county we must still do everything possible to support those less fortunate than others. It is vital that we help communities to help themselves.

“I am inviting bids for projects that can make a real difference to people’s lives in these communities, whether they seek to help people get the skills to get back into work, tackle vandalism or provide activities that support children’s education.”
