Month left for waste consultation views PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 12 July 2010 08:27

People have a month to help shape the way waste is dealt with in Surrey.
Surrey Waste Partnership, made up of Surrey County Council and the 11 districts and borough councils, has been running a consultation to get residents views on dealing with waste.
These views will be used to help write Surrey’s plan for waste management which will set new targets for recycling and waste reduction in the county.
As this will effect everyone in Surrey, residents have been asked to fill out a questionnaire which is available online at www.surreywastepartnership.org.uk, or at libraries and district and borough council offices. People have a month to do this before the consultation ends on 12 August.
Jean Pearson, chairman of the Surrey Waste Partnership, said: “We review our strategies regularly but there are particularly good reasons for doing so now. One is that our residents have become so good at recycling that we believe we can exceed the targets set in the 2007 strategy. On top of that, new technologies are opening the door to improved options for treating waste.
“We plan to set an overall household reuse, recycling and composting target of 70% by 2013/2014, but can’t do it without the co-operation and enthusiasm of our residents. That’s why we want them to tell us what resources they need to do their bit towards reaching this goal.”
