Surrey County Council remains one of the best performing authorities in the country at Key Stage Two, analysis of the latest Department for Children, Schools and Families figures show. More than a quarter of Surrey 11-year-olds achieved the standard expected of pupils aged 14 – children at secondary school level – in both maths and English. The 28% of pupils who reached this level put Surrey well above the national average of 22% and placed the county joint 10th in the table of 139 councils.
Peter Martin, Cabinet Member for Schools and Learning, said: “Yet again Surrey is one of the top-performing authorities and the results underline that we have some of the best state schools in the country.
“I would like to thank all our headteachers, the teams they lead and the children, parents and governors for the efforts they have put into delivering such strong results. South Farnham Community Junior and Ashley Primary deserve special praise for their truly outstanding efforts. We are not, however, complacent and remain committed to raising attainment across Surrey even further.”
