Residents need to act now to make sure they can have their say at the district and parish elections, as well as in the UK referendum on the voting system, all taking place on Thursday 5 May.

To vote residents must be listed on the Electoral Register. Anyone who thinks they are not can check the Electoral Register at the Council Offices, Oxted or contact Electoral Services.

Those not on the register must complete, sign and return a Voter Registration Form by 5pm on 14 April to be able to vote on 5 May.

Any resident not able to vote in person on the day can apply to vote by post or proxy.

¡ To be able to vote by post, a completed application form must be received no later than 5pm on 14 April. Postal votes will be sent to the voter, along with a prepaid addressed envelope to return the ballot papers.

¡ A completed application form to appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf must be received by 5pm on 21 April.

¡ If the proxy wants to vote by post, a postal proxy form must be received by 5pm on 14 April.

Chief Executive and Returning Officer, Stephen Weigel, said: “I would urge anyone who has not yet registered to vote to do it now. In addition, anyone who has moved house in the past few months needs to register at their new address. Voting is your chance to elect the person you believe will best represent your interests.”
